Hi, this is to inform all hotmail users that still rely on it that you can now once again use Outlook Express, Thunderbird, other mail clients to access hotmail. No extentions, adddons needed for Thunderbird. The url with the info for doing this is: http://ask-leo.com/what_are_windows_live_hotmails_pop3_and_smtp_settings.html.

This is for Outlook Express only, but you setup hotmail in a similar way in Thunderbird, hth.

Now when will yahoo do this, hopefully soon...:)

Wooh-Hooh, I'm glad it is back! This is for free accounts, correct?

Phew, maybe I don't need to get rid of my windows live email, like I had planned!

Brilliant! It worked!

BTW, the more accounts one has via outlook express, could there be increasing problems? Just curious.

To Polka dots and Moonbeams:

Can you explain your specific issue, because though I'm not using OE (Outlook Express), I don't have any issues getting my mail. I use Thunderbird, no, there are no working Jaws scripts for it, for V2.0.0.19. I have 3 other email accounts, maybe, you have them all checking for email at the same time, on startup? If so, just have the one you use most often check for email on startup, then do the others after its done, hth.

I just set up my hotmail account in outlook express and have had no problems.

Oops, sorry guys. I'm not having any problems, I just wondered if some could develop. Ya know, for having multiple identities.

I am loving this hotmail via outlook express! It is making it soooo much easier!

to post 12:

Did you set up the ports and ssl, or tls as stated in the first link?

You can now get yahoo to be free for pop as well. Note: this is hit or miss.

sign into your yahoo account
go to your yahoo sign in name
enter your password
go to the edit for member information
switch the yahoo us, to yahoo asia, when it comes to what content you want to display
this does nothing for the language, its still in english

sign out, then sign back in
agree with the tos, this has to be done only once
go to mail options
forwarding and pop should now be available

hth, lemme know how many of you other than myself get this to work.

Your yahoo tip hasn't worked for me. *smile*

There is another workaround for yahoo email. Get a program called YpoPS, for Windows. I'd used it successfully, before learning about the workaround I gave above. I'd rather use the new workaround, for some reason, when I use YpoPS, email don't download at all, though the password and user id is correct, for receiving. For now, you may not be able to send email using YpoPS, sorry to say.

I felt glad while thinking of this hotmail started giving free pop3 access. but now I'm sad while seeing that this doesn't work with vista. blah.

Why doesn't it work with vista?

Post 18 by Thunderstorm (HotIndian!) on Tuesday, 28-Apr-2009 19:22:20

not sure. but I tried configuring it with my vista ultimate and got failled with that. while looking at MS support page, It was mentioned as it couldn't be configured. that sucks.
